I think definitely an outdated curriculum, including too many mandates from the state on exactly what they should teach when and how. Teachers really have very little discretion. There’s also the bigger problem that the curriculum is too focused on content and not enough on real skill building, especially 21st-century skills like innovation, creativity, collaboration, entrepreneurship, project management etc.
Hi everyone – I’m Tory, founder of Coached Schooling. I’m absolutely passionate about reinventing our 19th-century industrial education system so our children are truly prepared for the 21st century. The amount of potential talent lost in our current education system is a national tragedy. I’m looking forward to interacting here with others that want to make a difference!
